About Abstract Photos

This group is dedicated to Abstract Photography.

It's about using a camera not to represent something but to create a feeling or sensation through the use of shape, color, texture, light and shadow.


Participation Guidelines

Inappropriate Images
NO heavy software editing.
NO heavy hardware editing. (abstracts created in the darkroom are not accepted)
NO photos of abstract paintings ( e.g., simple documents of an existing abstraction are not abstract ).
NO photos of art installations/sculptures ( ditto ).
NO superimposed signatures or copyrights ( use meta data please ).
NO elaborate borders or frames.
NO people.
NO pornography - if it qualifies as porn, it can't be abstract as well. If you have to ask, you're definitely in the wrong place.

Group / pool / discussion norms
Please do NOT do the following:
NO medium or large size images in threads - use SMALL size please.
NO re-posting of images removed by the admins & moderators
NO posting an image to the monthly contest if at the time of posting it is in question ("is this abstract" or "inappropriate")
NO posting "is my image abstract?" as new threads. These "look at my photo" threads will be closed/deleted. Use the current "Is this abstract?" thread instead.
NO starting new threads about "definition of abstract". Instead, please find an appropriate existing definition thread to add to.

- if you have posted non-abstract images to the pool, and a review of your photostream shows no understanding of abstract as this group defines it
