I have been receiving a lot of complains about Taco barking a lot when I'm not at home (I left him alone for about 8 hours 3 times per week), I don't want this situation get worst and I really lwant to have a good relation with my neighbours, I have send Taco to classes for 2 weeks while I think in a solution. This is really sad for me. =(

I have found a product called "ultimate dog silencerl" a control collar that emmits ultrasonic frequencies everytime a dog barks.

www.eurobarkcontrol.com/ds_ultimate.htm

What's your opinion about this? I would only use it during my absences as a last resource, but I don't want to cause any pain to Taco and also I want a solution to the problem.

Please let me know what you think.

A friend uses a citronella spray collar to control barking when she's at work. She says she has good results so perhaps it is something to investigate.

The problem for me is that your beagle stays alone too many hours(..."alone for about 8 hours 3 times per week"), how about a friend or a neigbour, taking your buddy for a walk?
I found this:

Best luck for both, you and your cute Taco!

Thanks for your messages,

Yes, I'm looking for someonte to move to my home (really) or take Taco to my mother's house those fdays (I think I almost convince her), a device like that would be a really really last resource. My question is more oriented to if you know if that collar can help Taco without causing any damage to him...

I live in apartment building also and don't want my dog barking. I would not leave my dog alone for that many hours. I don't know where you live, but there are doggy daycares available. If I have to work a full day, I would take my dog to a doggy daycamp, where he plays with other dogs all day long and he is as happy as can be. When I need to leave for just a few hours, I would put a citronella collar on him. It is a bit expensive but it works great and it's harmless. All it does, it sprays citronella in his face area if he barks. Dogs don't care for the smell, and it startles them a bit when it sprays out. But it does not hurt them.

As a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and being owned by a Beagle myself I have heard about and lived with this and have given the same advice Over and Over again.
You don't have a Barking problem. You have a Separation problem. I can't diagnose your dog with separation anxiety, but you DEFINITELY have a problem. A bark collar will make your dog more anxious over all. Email me and we can talk about some options for separation problems. Getting a walker or having someone watch your dog is a Great option, but there is a lot more work to do to make your dog happier when you leave.

I think my dog suffers from separation anxiety when I leave -- usually only when he KNOWS I leave or don't put him in his Kennel before leaving (like if my wife is home).

Usually if someone else is home, I'll throw the dog in the back yard so he doesn't know I leave, but would be very interested in other tips.

Regarding barking, my biggest annoyance is the neighbor's dog! Has anyone seen/used a product simlar to this: www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755417 -- not a collar, so I could use it on the neighbor's dog, too?

The best book I've ever encountered on the subject of separation anxiety prevention and behavior modification is Patricia McConnell, PhD's "I'll Be Home Soon". I'll include the link to it on Dogwise.com for her book , otherwise you can get it on Amazon too. It is very short, but Packed full of Wonderful info. She has an entire series of pamphlet-books that deal with many common dog problems. Many of her books deal with the bigger problems dogs have, not just the barking. Barking is a very common symptom to Many dog problems.

As for that Petsmart product, the dog needs to be annoyed by the sound enough to stop and once they realize there is nothing to it and nothing happens than they will continue to bark. These products are based on the same theory as the no bark shock collars, they just get the dog to stop the barking, but don't change Why the dog is barking. Plus it only works from 25 feet away. Another thing is, Why is that dog barking. If you know the Why the How to Fix is MUCH easier.
