About blackground
something of the surreal:
anything rising out of a black background loses scale, space, proportion, and context.
but those losses are balanced by the focus placed on color, line, feature, and form.
in being empty, the space the subjects inhabit becomes infinite.
and that, to me, is neat.
slight rules:
- the name of the group is "blackground" not "reallyreallydarkground." subjects floating in anything more than a few hexidecimal places north of #000; will be purged from the pool.
- this group is dedicated to photography not photoediting. this group's task is challenging and entrancing in the former, trivial and nonplussing in the latter. we like a challenge.
so: the blackground of any shot in the pool must be photographic, not photoshoppic; it must exist in the shot-as-taken or be brought about by full-image editing techniques such as adjustments of brightness or contrast (whose affects are more or less interchangeable with light-filters or in-camera settings like shutterspeed and f-stop).
in short: if you see a *.* and want it painted black, this is not the group for you.
