Quick S2 pricing question

Hi all,

I've seen an S2 kit in a shop that I want (it may be an S2A), and was wondering what a reasonable price might be. I've had a hunt around ebay, but prices differ wildly.

The kit is comprised of: body (standard waistlevel viewfinder), 2 backs, Nikkor 75mm lens, 150mm lens.

Everything seems to be in good condition, and I know that the shop is reliable, but the price he wants seems a little on the steep side. I live in Hanoi, Vietnam, and unfortunately the price of film cameras here hasn't decreased like elsewhere so I am prepared to pay a little more than I would in the UK, but I would like to get a feel for what is reasonable.

What would be a reasonable price range for the kit?

The last S2A I picked up on ebay was $225. Backs usually go for $40-75 and the 150 is worth about $100. These are Ebay prices. Dealers almost always charge more.

Late S2A bodies with serial numbers over 150,000 don't have the S2A designation after the serial number and are lacking the wings under the strap studs.

Thanks summicron.

He was asking $800, which is probably in the correct Vietnam price range then. I'll try bargaining a little and see it I can get him down.

Wish I could use ebay, but customs here slap 20% on anything they feel is a luxury item (cameras definitely fall into this category), and they decide what it's worth too...

Vietnam being a tropical country, I wonder if you need to be a bit extra careful buying a 30+ year old camera? They crop up in the UK on ebay for around £120 body/lens/back - perhaps importing one might be an option?

Thanks Salamandertome. I've considered that. The problem is that customs/post office etc can't be trusted with anything that looks remotely expensive. Unless I know someone coming to Vietnam I can't really use the ebay option. Which is a shame (or perhaps a blessing!) because there's always things I want up for sale.

Luckily this shop (and this particular guy) keeps his stuff in very good condition - he's serious about his cameras. Everything's in humidity controlled cabinets.

I have some thinking to do...

Went for it in the end. Bargained him down and ended up with a third back and a 200mm Zenzanon lens extra.

Anyone know this lens? Zenzanon MC 200mm 3.5.

It doesn't fit the S2A body which makes me curious as to why he gave it to me - I think he just wanted to get rid of everything Bronica if he was going to sell the rest. Which body does it fit? I've tried but found no details of it online...
