SQ-A accessories

I should be getting my newly acquired SQ-A next week. I spoke with the person from whom I purchased it, and he has a bunch of other lenses and accessories for this camera.

Having come from a Mamiya RB67 (and now Canon EOS in the DSLR realm), I am sadly not knowledgeable about Bronica's products.

What lenses will fit this camera? Will any lense that is made for any SQ body work? What about lenses made for the ETR series?

Also, would it be smart to get a speed grip for this camera, and if so, which? I assume that only the speed grip for the SQ-A works, not the ones I see listed for the other models. Also, what about flash?

Thanks for letting me pick your brains!

look for zenzanon s or ps lenses. the ps series are supposedly more flare resistant and have better contrast than the s lenses. i believe the sq-b lenses are mechanically compatible with sq-a bodies, but they don't communicate electronically with the ae prism. the s and ps lenses are compatible with the sq line of bodies, but lenses and bodies are not interchangeable between the etrc and sq systems.

i have the speed grip s and it was good while it lasted, but wasn't really necessary with the waste level finder. it would probably be more useful with an eye level prism. i think i broke it by using it to wind 120 film through a 220 back.

not sure if you are awared about the SQ-Am which has a built in motor with a hotshoe for a flash. but like whickus said a speed grip is pretty pointless unless you are wanting it for the hot shoe feature, and about the flash question not sure what you are wanting to know, but basically no TTL (if you already didnt know that) just a PC socket and work on manual settings, id recommend getting some transmitters that way you can use a tripod for your flash(s) and not have to worry about wires and etc.

If the listing does not specify "S" or "PS", and doesn't explicitly state that it is for an SQ-A or SQ-Ai body, is there a way to know? For example, I saw a lense on eBay that was listed as ETRS/ETRSi - but no other specs on the lense model (50 MM Zenzanon). Is this lense compatible? I ask only because sometimes people just don't give enough information and unfortunately, I am not yet knowledgeable enough on Bronica to make an educated guess!

Thanks!

ETRS/ETRSi means that it's for the Bronica ETR series of cameras. Lenses for these also will have E, MC (for multi-coated), E-II or PE letter designations on the lens. The distance markings in feet should be in green.

SQ/SQ-A/SQ-Ai lenses will have S or PS on the lens; the distance markings in feet should be in orange (I believe that S lenses also have an orange ring around the barrel).

Just to confuse things, there are also lenses designated with PG and they also have distance markings in orange; these are for the GS-1 6x7 camera, though they don't turn up for sale anywhere nearly as often as ETR/SQ lenses.

Tamron's Bronica archives is a good place to find information; however, they don't list specification for all the lenses, just the most recent versions of them.
