Thanks! This thread motivated me to test my lens on the Seattle skyline yesterday. No vignetting with my 5D as it helped to have a narrower aperature. I've been slacking on using this lens as I haven't hit the portraits much... I've had other focuses but will most likely hit the people portraits in an upcoming wave as I do with all my lenses typically. Always trying to rotate the lenses for fresh approaches... :o)

All the photos in this set were taken with my 50mm EF II f1.8:

The lighting in the gym is really poor, except around the areas where the doors are open to let in the exterior air and light. This lens worked like a charm under these conditions!

Hi everyone! I just bought my first DSLR on Friday, a Canon 40D, and it came with a "Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM", but I wanted something also a bit faster, and after seeing this post, it helped me make up my mind on what to get next, so tonight, I ordered the "Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II" for $89 USD and it'll be here in 2 days!

My nifty fifty was shipped yesterday and should be here soon. I paid $84.95 on Amazon. I am looking forward to using it soon and posting some images.

I kept putting off buying one because I kept going back to how little I used my 50 in 35mm film photography. However with the 1.6 factor, I see this lens being much more useful with digital, so I made the plunge.

In the old days of FD Canon lens, my favs were 24 f2.8, 100 macro, and 200 f2.8--I could shoot all day with these three lens. Nary a zoom ever touched my F1, New F1, or F1n. I did have access to longer teles when needed.

I'm a big fan of the 50 and have used it extensively on my Nikon stuff. Now I've gone Canon and you're all making me realize I need to have one here too. However, this time around on my EOS-1Ds, it'll really be a 50!

Great pictures here!

Hey guys/gals just thought you might wanna check this site out:

www.diyphotography.net/diy_create_your_own_bokeh

I found this from another forum but I really think it's cool and that our 50mm F/1.8 is the one for the job :) I'll try this in a couple of days and hopefully I can post some of them here.

Cheap lens + cheap ring light = great bokeh images. I love this one hehe
