ASHOKA - Innovators for the Public
Ashoka's work is spreading rapidly across the globe. On a self-funding basis, they have recently been introducing social entrepreneurship and launching Ashoka in Europe. (In the last months electing the first Fellows from Germany, France, Spain, and Ireland. Ashoka has long been serving Central Europe. During this same period they have also elected the first Fellows from three Middle Eastern countries). Below are some useful links to important coverage in European newspapers:

Everyone a Changemaker – Ashoka founder, Bill Drayton’s Vision.

Social entrepreneurs are guided by values. (One of our four selection criteria is "ethical fiber".) They cannot be cynical because they are changing their societies. And they are almost always as humble as they are bold: They do not need either psychological or material glitz; they have the far, far greater satisfaction of making contributions that truly matter.

They are also among the world's most critical teachers, although this is little appreciated. They help people learn something far more important than knowledge. More important even than the solutions they find to the world's problems. They are the chief champions of the most important change both for individuals and society -- the shift towards Ashoka's chief goal, an "Everyone a Changemaker" world. (Download the Innovations Brochure below.)

They are powerful role models.

Even more important, they cannot succeed in getting their innovations to fly unless they each first get thousands of people across society to stand up and make the idea take root locally. To do this, they challenge the old ways and provide the most user-friendly, understandable, safe, supported new model possible. The new local changemakers they thus recruit in turn become local role models. Some will become the next generation pattern-change entrepreneurs.

The more leading social entrepreneurs society has, the faster this contagion will spread. More and more of the world's people will know in their hearts that they can cause change, that they are truly powerful, that they are full citizens in the highest meaning of the word.

This is the most important change.

This downloadable brochure will fill you in on Ashoka’s ultimate goal for social entrepreneurship: Everyone a Changemaker.
