Central State Hospital, formally referred to as the
Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane, was a
psychiatric treatment hospital in Indiana. menancing
and still threatening today, this facility sets empty,
releasing its last patient in the early 90’s amid
allegations of abuse. central state first opened it’s
doors in 1848 with the hope of treating those less
fortunate souls who were suffereing from a wide range
of mental illness. In the late 1970s, many of the
buildings were declared unsound and demolished.
Allegations of patient abuse continued to be a problem
until its closure in 1994. In fact, lurid tales of
patient abuse played a major role in the dismantling
of Central State Hospital. The walls within this
complex hold many secrets. While the majority of
buildings at Central State, have been demolished, some
say the ghosts that once dwelled within refuse to die.
As the facility lays empty and abandoned…Security
guards still claim to hear the
screams and moans of former patients on the grounds,
they’ve been know to see the blurry form of patients
run by the guard shack. A woman screaming and moaning
is heard in the old powerhouse by the boiler, and
shadows are seen moving about the room……
