cannot auto align.

I have (finally) graduated to a dSLR ( an Olympus E410), and now I am finding a weird problem with auto aligning images.

The Fuji images were smaller ( 6 Megapixel, as opposed to 10megapixel from the Olympus) but the aligning seems to fail silently, and it simply doesn't align the images..
It takes ages before generating the HDR with aligning set on, but if I leave it off, the images are (mis) aligned the same, but it is quicker.

I suspect that the alignment routine is running out of memory & failing with no error trapping, or something similar.

I have some trouble with the manual alignment too (just to make it more interesting!) . On my laptop, I cannot use the keyboard arrow keys to move the Pins. The arrow keys just change the application focus. That is very frustrating when you need to move the pin one or two pixels, as it is almost impossible with the mouse.:-(
. - Can that be worked around too?

Further to this...
I am using 1.41 BTW.

If I try to save the aligned images, the application crashes, & wants to send an error report to M$.

Neil, could you redownload the 1.41 version? First version released was 1.41.1 and now it is 1.41.3. There was a small, but a critical bug in the auto alignment that at least on my computer just caused the images to be aligned wrongly, but on some other machines it could crash the program. Also it should now be faster... I've found out that the progress bar was slowing down the process.

Great stuff Bartek!
That sorted it out.. I didn't realise there was a .3 version, or I would have tested it before commenting here.

It is a great piece of software!

Great to have such a fast update correcting the bugs.

Just to inform you the main site is not working, giving internal server errors.

The website is now working, it must have been a temporary malfunction.

To Neil: yeah, I could have sent the newsletter... it took 5 minutes to find that bug and 5 seconds to correct it... it was like a one-character typing error :)

Yup now its working fine,
I downloaded the latest version though I dont use auto align, its a good feature for those who use hand held HDR.

Does auto align take care of moving objects in the scene when the camera is tripod mounted?

I shot some handheld HDR & used the auto align feature 1st time but it failed as it did not align it perfectly, then I tried manual aligning which did a better job but again its not perfect aligned, the edges show a residue line.

From the 1st time use I felt the need of the following.

1. Magnify the circle area 4Xtimes so we can see details while placing the circle

2. cant we have auto recognizing feature same as its available in www.PTgui.com

I have few shots which cannot align if needed I can send them for testing.

Of course it's not perfect and both auto and manual alignment tools cannot be used with all kinds of photos. In example the auto alignment tool will fail in case of a view from inside of a tunnel - a round bright object - the tunnel entrance, and dark surroundings will fool the function in case of enabled rotation compensation.

1) It's a good idea... I'll write it down on my next todo list,
2) Well, alignment is the heart of PTGUI, in case of easyHDR it's just an additional feature. I'd like to develop a couple of other things first.
