Another version has been released today. A lot of improvements have been done, here are the most important:

* support for FITS file format (astrophotography)
* automatic rotation of JPEGs
* drag & drop functionality
* (optional) registration of easyHDR as default app to load *.hdr files
* improved workflow - it's more user friendly and allowed adding an "undo alignment" feature
* 20% faster tone mapping
* 2x faster auto alignment with rotation compensation
* better curves tool - cubic spline interpolation, user friendly adding and removal of the knee points
* improved white balance tool

(all modifications are listed here: www.easyhdr.com/version.php)

I've also updated the tutorial: www.easyhdr.com/tutorial.php (+ the PDF version).

I've also described an example of using easyHDR in astrophotography: www.easyhdr.com/tutorial.php?spc=astro and recently also wrote a simple note about Exposure Value (with an interactive calc): www.easyhdr.com/tutorial.php?spc=ev.

I hope you'll like the new version.

Hello Bartek,
I am having some strange problem with this new version.

I add 3 images for creating hdr nothing happens & in the task manager I see easyhdr as "not responding". If I force quit the application from task manager I see the following error

szAppName : easyHDR.exe szAppVer : 0.0.0.0 szModName : hungapp
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000

I cant understand what is causing this problem, so I reinstalled the latest version 1.42.1 again but the issue remains same, task manager shows no cpu usage, neither the ram is being used by any other application.

If I let it run for a while then easyhdr starts working after 2-3 mins of not responding & finishes the hdr creation.
Then I tone map & when I want to save, it again is not responding for 2-3 mins & after than it saves the image.

Need to sort this out.

How big are the photos? Does the program have the proviliges to write to the directory where the photos are located?

Maybe one window is covered by another? Please try to load photos and process them without going to other applications.

Could you verify the problem by opening smaller photos - i.e. VGA size?

Please write to me via e-mail.

Just to let the others know - the problem is now pin-pointed. The error won't happen if "Details" or "List" is chosen instead of "Thumbnails" in the "Program Options -> Open & Save Picture windows".

The Open & Save picture windows are system derived and the thumbnails are also generated by the system, so the problem must lie somewhere in the configuration of Windows (???) However it seems that there is no problem on most machines... I know only about 2 cases.

Yes we sorted out the problem for this time but now onwards when a new version is out can we make it to set the default options or give a choice.

Else can we have a file /thumbnail browser within easyhdr so we can have thumbnails which can be dragged for hdr creation.

Now I have had a bit more of a pley with this version, here are my comments.
I have had no real problems with this version. It is definitely faster!
My one gripe is that it is now more "manual". I would like to have the option to auto align & then go straight to the HDR creation ( like it used to work) as I always to do more than one thing at once.

I used to start the align & HDR process, then go away & do something else (on the computer or maybe in another room), then come back & see what the result was before tweaking it... Sometimes half an hour later, or more

Now I must start the alignment manually, then come back & start the HDR manually, and I can't even tell if the alignment was really successful anyway. So adding that step has added no value (I stress that is for ME only, as it applies to my workflow!)

My suggestion would be to make a checkbox or something from the auto alignment dialog that says something like "create HDR after alignment" and link the processes.

All in all though, it is a faster, and therefore better, product Bartek!

Neil: yeah, I can add such a checkbox. Good idea.
