Which film?
 |
The members numbers are creeping up and I was wondering what film we all use for our 'Film Portraits'?
Also, whether you develop your own film, colour or b&w?

I shoot a mixture of films. For portraiture though, I will often shoot with Ilford XP2 or Kodak BW400CN in the 400 ISO range. The contrast is amazing and it retains detail in highlights and shadows unlike more conventional stuff.
Alternatively Ilford FP4 ISO 125 is good with the advantage of great film to enlarge without blowing out anything due to the fine grains. HP5 and Delta 100 and 400 are two other real nice films in the Ilford line.
For Lomo fisheye work I tend to use cheap expired colour film such as AGFA Vista 200 or Tudor 200.
For more serious Colour work, I've found Fujifilm 160 Porto film superb!
And all the infrared films are great for the right type of portraiture work on sunny days in fields, etc...

i usually use hp5 (ilford) or velvia (fujifilm). ilford's range from iso100-400 usually does the trick and provides little grain, especially with a 2.8 lens. the velvia i only use 50, i just love the color and the way the negatives look.
i develop at samy's, i have yet to learn how to do my own, nor do i have a dark room to do it.

For film portraits I used to be a big fan of Fuji Reala. I've always liked rich bold colors even though they may not be perfectly accurate. Problem with Reala was that I could never get a good scan from it. I now prefer Provia 400X which scans beautifully and gives me some extra speed.
My black and white favorite is Fuji Acros 100.
