WANTED: Group Administrators
 |
Hi guys,
Could somebody help us out on promoting the group and making it more productive, in a way delivering the theme to all other groups and people?
Thanks.

Hello Admin , in checking my list of groups, lo and behold I see I'm a Co-Admin...and I didn't even know about this.
Would someone fill me in on when and how this happened without my knowing? Thanks for thinking of me, but I would have liked to have been asked first. Isn't that what's supposed to happen? This is just common courtesy.
Anyway this has happened to me before, in that I've been promoted without my knowledge. I am already Admin and Co-Admin of several groups and they take quite enough of my time.
Even though I'm declining the post in this group, I would like an explanation as to why I have become an Admin.
Thanks, Mary

Really? I wonder how many more there are who don't know.
From what I can see they have more than they need, so what you have to do here is quit the group and then rejoin. Ha ha...they probably won't even notice!
So long...it's been nice to know you...I will rejoin and just be a member.
Thank you very much.

Hi.
Sorry for the confusion. Actually, I don't have a list of qualifications on how to become an Admin. I'm just basing this on the participation on Discussions, etc. c",)
But you don't have any worries when becoming an Admin here. I'm still doing the best that I can to Administer this group. c",) But if you still don't want to be an Admin, just tell me.
Cheers!

Thanks for you reply. I do like to participate in discussions when I have the time and if it's one that interests me and/or I have somethng worthwhile to add that may be of interest to someone else.
However I don't think it constitutes me wanting to be in the Admin positions. I still think it would be be more courteous of you to ask who would be interested in becoming an Admin. It really isn't wise to assume.
I have removed myself from the Admin position and rejoined as a member. Thanks again for you reply.

I was also surprised to be promoted to Admin status, but I am not quitting and going back to Member status, ever. :-)

Also, Mary, I agree with you that anybody wanting to be an admin of this group or even any other group should be asked either by e-mail or by having a discussion topic where those interested in the admin duties post their replies to say they are interested. For me, it doesn't matter if the head admin of a group asks me to help out via e-mail, if he or she posts a discussion topic where I post my reply to say I am interested, or if he or she just clicks on the Promote button in the Manage Members link of the Administration link. And like I said in my previous reply, once I get promoted to Admin status, I am not quitting and then joining the group again to return to Member status. Plus, I cannot be sure if a group I was promoted to Admin status in will stay Public, go Invitation Only, or go Private.

Ok, so what does an administrator have to do?

Well, I think the Administrator must be active in replying to discussions, and probably thinks of some ideas to promote the group and to prolong it. An example of this is to add photo contests, or weekly roundup, what photo is the best, adding a weekly theme and like that...etc. (I wanted to do this, but I don't know how to start, that's why I need help from other Administrators) I'm also planning to create a photoblog for the winners. <-- this is an easy task. c",)
Administrators are also responsible in removing images that do not relate to the group.
He/She is also responsible in adding tags to the images.
About adding tags, some groups remove images without proper tags, because they think that it's the users reponsibility to add tags to their images. What do you think of this?

Ok... I am new here.... but this topic was interesting to me for a similar end, but for entirely different reason:
How can one get out of being an Admin, as some of you implied is possible? I am an Admin of many sites already, and I do not see any clickable link that will allow me to get out of an Admin role in one specific group.
It was not my choosing. There is a group that I joined, in retrospect, I should not have.and they also promoted me to an Admin. It is one of those Top20 kind of group. Last year, I was naive, when I first joined flickr. I thought. Wow, top 20. Imagine seeing just the best twenty photos, everyday.
As it turned out, I did not have as much chance to visit the group. And, a month or so ago, I had to look at the group since there was a project I wanted to do that would involve the best photos -- top20 should be best. Right? Well, it turned out some of the "residual 20" are not really the best -- some were mediocre.
I looked deeper into the rules, and what I found was that it developed the worst in human beings. I won't go into details, but that is why I want out of the group.
The thing is, I guess as a safety mechanism, Flickr must have made the option that one Admin cannot delete another, or in this case, I cannot delete myself in the group..
Thanks.
