Hello everyone! I am new here.
There is a very old song called... Try to Remember
It begins with the words
Try to remember the kind of September...
I wonder if some of you would be interested to capture in one image -- using "image and words" what the past September meant to you -- as the days of summer becomes a fading memory, at least among people in the Northern hemisphere. [The story down South is quite the opposite.]
If you wish I posted the song below also and you may try to "interpret" it, instead.
Since this is a Nature kind of site, the photo should have something that includes the environment -- plants, the changing of the seasons, even people, animals and other organisms -- i.e., being one with the world and more, in keeping with the Ecosystems concept.
This is a good experiment, if people, North and South of the equator, participate because while there is a changing of seasons during the month of September -- it is different from the two sides of the earth. Well, near the equator it is a different story altogether. In fact, how the seasons change depend on where you are located too.
It is obvious that the song was written for the Northern hemisphere -- when Summer is about to end, and the early days of Autumn begins. The summer flowers are about to have their last display or long gone -- their beauty resides in our memory, reminisced with the images we captured. The night cannot decide whether it will chill your bones, or tempt you with burst of a few hot nights in between -- taunting or just reminding that you will miss these days... come the cold of Winter.
But that is the Northern hemisphere. I have never been down South of the equator, but if I have it correctly, September is the time when the days of Winter are almost a memory. Spring promises its brilliance of flowers, reminiscent of what Summer holds.
For people down South therefore, the counterpoint to the song "Try to Remember" is
"Ode to the West Wind" by Percy Bysshe Shelley
the moment I first read it in high school, I fell in love with it immediately... from the hope given in the last two lines:
"The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?"
and to people down South, the promise of the West Wind has come... it is no longer just a hope, but a reality. I don't know about you, but since I came to the US, the early days of Spring is my favorite season of the year -- most especially in Southern states where it comes early and stays longer. In Spring, the burst of Life is all around us finding its crescendo come Summer.
There was a time when these two worlds -- that of the Northern and Southern hemisphere -- were quite apart. But with aviation and internet, the world indeed has become a global village.
Through your participation in this experiment, it would be exciting to find how the juxtaposition of these two "different worlds -- North and South -- with the "images and words" that will be contributed.
So, I hope you do participate and we all shall discover what is created together.
Personally, I think that if this will work (i.e., there is enough participation), and the resulting images are properly archived, for long term -- it can have sort of a historical significance, about us personally and as peoples of the world.
Note that the very old song and the poem here were chosen specifically because of the optimism and hope and of the promise of remiscence ahead for us in the future. Thus, the image we share is not meant just to record what we see at a time, but more a symbolism of our aspirations and dreams -- or at least what we hope the world around us should be.

I there is enough participation, we can do it again for October, and monthly thereafter -- assuming the Admin will allow it, of course.

"Try to remember the kind of September"

Try to Remember
Words and music by tom jones and harvey schmidt from the musical the
Fantasticks
Try to remember the kind of september
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of september
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of september
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh
Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That dreams were kept beside your pillow
Try to remember when life was so tender
That love was an ember about to billow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh
Deep in december it’s nice to remember
Although you know the snow will follow
Deep in december it’s nice to remember
Without a hurt, the heart is hollow
Deep in december it’s nice to remember
The fire of september that made you mellow
Deep in december our hearts should remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh
Follow, oh-oh
