cbmd: You nailed it. That option was turned off. I wonder if flickr will automagically save that data for all photos that have it now or do I have to place those photos on a map?

You have to place them on a map or else re-upload (replacing is enough).

@zackjones: there is an external web app that can re-sync your existing photo's exif coordinates into the flickr map (and also into the "old" geo:* tags), so you don't need to manually re-map nor re-upload all your photos.
I don't recall the name or url though, so you'll need to search or wait for someone else to tell us.
