(semi)legality of stopping in the emergency lane

"but officer! the light was perfect!"
do you guys do this? ever been cited or anything? there's so many pictures I want to take but the thought of a hefty fine stops me.

i say go for it.. as long as you do it safely. the chances of getting busted for it are pretty small i'd think.
i'm sure people pull over for far stupider things.
