Well welcome to the life of photography. Biggest advice i can give you:
Just get out and take the pictures. Learn about your camera and its settings. Never be afraid to get criticism wether it is good or negative.

Hello to all...I'm Priscilla & my wonderful husband gave me a Panasonic LUMIX DMC FZ50 for Christmas & I am in love with it!! It is the most amazing camera & takes the most amazing photographs!
I live in New Port Richey, Florida & love to shoot sunsets, flowers & my friend Teresa! Looking forward to exploring the photo pool!

Hi Hugo,
Good choice, you won't go far wrong with a Panny. It's a good tool but ultimately it's just that - you're the guy who makes the pictures and you're off to a good start.
Best advice? Camera magazines - they tend to be written by talented photographers well versed in communicating ideas and techniques.
Don't take flickr too seriously, addictive as it is, there's a lot of idiots out there - check out their pictures before listening to them.
The world of photography beckons, I hope you find it as rewarding as I do.
