Attention Agents:

Headquarters is experiencing a technical difficulty that affects the very life of our agency. Now that our membership numbers have grown to more than 500, which is a good problem to have, Gmail will no longer allow Mr. X to send the mass e-mail announcement that calls most of you into service. Gmail apparently limits mass e-mails to less than 500 and they may also limit the number of single mailings to less than 500 per day. Attempting to send a mass mailing to 500 or more addresses results in an automatic 24-hour freeze on the account as such a mass mailing appears to be spam.

One option would be to create a Mission 24 Google Group through which Mr. X could send a mass mailing to M24 members, but that would entail all members using either a Gmail or Yahoo e-mail address, rather than their most preferred e-mail address to which we announced previous missions. It would also entail members joining the Google Group.

Recommendations for a satisfactory solution to this problem would be most appreciated.

Hm... this sounds tedious, but could HQ create more than one Gmail account? 499 emails could be sent from each, and the freezing would be avoided, but this would only remain manageable until the group grows very much more...

smart idea kelsey! mr X will have a little more work to do but hey, I need my M24 fix and some pictures in explore (as these are the only ones that make it into explore - not that I care about that crazy formula anyway - really I don't. I just want my fix)

I think kelsey's idea is best; at least until the group grows larger than 1000.

I've got my own domain and wouldn't have a problem with sending over 500 emails except its hosted by google and the same limit applies.

If I think of anything, I'll let ya know...

Question, is it 500 per day or 500 per message?

I'm not sure. Maybe it's 500 per message. But I like Kelsey's idea too. I've been wracking my brain about this, and her solution seems so simple. Doh! I knew we had some intelligent agents out there.

What if we split the group? I bet that for some a mission early in the week is better and for some latter in the week is better. So we could make two groups and let people choose which time best suits them. Or maybe a weekday and a weekend group. Of course, this only works if people don't all pick the same time. It might be worth considering.

As far as using a google group, you wouldn't necessarily need members to use an @google.com email address… I've got a couple of GG memberships and the members of them have all kinds of addresses from @aol.com to @usa.com. You only really need an @google.com email address if you want to run a group I believe.

Kelsey's solution seems to have worked, at least for now. I took her advice and opened another gmail account, started a new mission, e-mailed all members, and now we're off and running again. Thanks for all your advice. It's much appreciated.
