Moldy bento- is it safe to use after thorough cleaning?

view profile

Bhakti Henna says:

Hi,
So I left my bento in the car too long unfortunately, and when I opened it up it was moldy. Ewwww!
I just handwashed the pieces and then threw them in the dishwasher. When they come out of that, I will also soak them in vinegar to kill germs.

I wondered others' opinion- do you think it's ok to use them after that, or would there be a chance I'm ingesting trace amounts of mold???

Thanks!
Bhakti

I think you'll be absolutely fine, especially if you leave your containers to air out for a week or so.

Plus, a little mold won't kill ya. ;)

I ended up hand-rinsing, then dishwasher-ing, then soaking in bleach water and wiping down. It seems I'm back in action. Thanks for the input about air-drying.
