And i'm completely confused why the description would use the word 'one' instead of the numeral. 1 is only 1 character and even 3 and 5 are only 1 character. That should clear that up, i should say.

I was just told an alternative, and very reasonable interpretation of "only one": images that have a solitary subject.
Of course the group's description is unambiguous, but it's natural for people to forget...

two things have happened in the last year which make it very likely extra stuff will spill into this group.
first was the ability to easily add photos to groups by selecting them from a pull-down menu of group names. obviously this led to a lot of groups putting rules in the group names, which is not aesthetic but helps some.
second was interestingness, a lovely thing that had a side effect of adding a game metric that we users quickly understood: being in multiple groups is somehow good for our photos.
so now we see photos in 20 groups quite frequently. i do this some, though i am easing off of the competition aspect of this stuff.
my process, when i do it, is to go down a long list and think "where else can i put this picture which deserves more love?"
so periodically i see "only one" and i think "ok, put this one in that one-a-day group too."
then hopefully i remember and delete it, red-faced, cuz i love the one that's here.
a timid suggestion. at the risk of making yet another group name look like an alien order, what about modifying the group name to something like:
Only One - just 1 photo per person
or
Only One (if you add another, remove your first one)

Not crazy about the alien order myself.
Makes my group list look 'unclean'.
Only One is awfully precise.
I personally can't wait for group admin tools to automate posting limits.

Here's a kind of radical idea: since everyone is only supposed to post ONE photo, why not kick people out of the group after they've posted a photo to the pool?
Discussions would be impacted but there's not a lot of discussion in this group, so maybe the 'enforcement' benefit outweighs the negative side effect in this case. Anyone can still view the pool by visiting the group page or subscribing to the feed.
But we'd have to join again to post again, which would make it more likely we'd be reminded of the rule.

I think you should make the Only Photo Ever concept clearer towards the beginning of the group blurb. Bet you that all the people who are posting more than one are yahoo users who can't count.

No need to take any added steps. The people who want to "get it" will get it. Others will never get it. The list of "top posters" indicates very quickly who has violated the principles of the group. Pain for the admins to keep it clean, I'm sure, but I don't think any further explanation is needed to clarify the group's rules. It's ONLY ONE!!!

oh jeez, i joined a long time ago and forgot completely the idea of the group. I have been posting photos where there is only one object in the photo, such as one post, one bird, etc... i feel a bit sheepish, but many many groups have names that describe what should be in pictures rather than how one should post. Is the 'frames' group about physical picture frames (antique or modern) or just photos where someone has included framing around the shot? Anyway, maybe if we had the name as "Only One Photo" rather than "Only One". This will help the forgetful like me and the other people who ask: Only one what?

i joined a long time ago and forgot completely the idea of the group.
It's always a good idea to check your groups frequently - especially if you have been away for an extended time - rather than just "dump" your photos in groups you haven't set foot in for a while.
Many groups change their rules over time to adapt to new ideas/members. And some groups even loose admins due to work overload caused by people who don't understand the very clear and simple rules ;-)

I found the "Photos you've added" VERY helpful, as I have a bad memory. And the photo I was going to add is the one I already added! Happy day! Glad I didn't add the same one twice. ;-D
