Logarithmic Tilings/Grids

As some some of you know, I have been making a lot of logarithmic tessellations and corrugations recently. I was wondering if anybody knows anything about the mathematics of how to logarithmically tile shapes... I am also looking for logarithmic grids (like a polar coordinate system, but logarithmic...). I tried a few google searches, but most of what I came up with is origami (some of it my own... lol).

So yeah, just about ANY information and/or links would be appreciated, origami or not...

Thanks in advance,

--Andrew

Hi,

The most obvious examples of this that I can think of are some of Tomoko Fuse's quilts. 'Blooming flowers' is a nice example. A straight forward kite shape, where the long edge of one kite is the same length as the short edge of the next. following one line of kites gives a logarithmic spiral.

Look for some spiral models by Tomoko Fuse, for example this one I folded 2 years ago :

Right now I can't remember the exact folding sequence, though. But no need to measure/plot reference points, I'm sure.

Not to bring this topic back from the dead, but there's a website I ran across that has all sorts of math stuff, including a page on logarithmic tessellations:

www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/symmetry/symmetry.htm

www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/symmetry/log-spir.htm

Have fun! Hopefully this means some more logarithmic tessellations on my part...

Nothing wrong with bringing a thread back from the dead...

Actually on that note, maybe we could set up a few asterisked threads that always remain at the top of the list for easy reference. We could just keep adding sites over time (without each one having its own thread)... Does the group feature have that?

Thoughts to think.

not sure that it allows for sticky threads, but it's certainly possible to post them in the group description or in the header field. I'd be quite amenable to that. Good idea.

That's a good thought Eric...

Thanks for the link Andrew, the second about radial and logaritmic tessellations is really interesting...
