well to be fair if she's getting up at 5 AM, she can go downstairs and still join in some of the late night folding, as it might still be going on...
late night folding is fun, but it is impossible to stay up for 4 nights in a row - so at some point you must sleep, and for quite some time... this means you will miss other things. I enjoy late night folding for the social qualities it has but I think this year I'm going to be ending my nights at 2 AM or earlier, so I can be functional in time for the next morning :)
Mélisande, you might have to get up at 5 AM just to be able to find a decent coffee shop that has good espresso! that way you will have coffee in time for 10 AM classes. (just no good coffee anywhere by FIT, it is very sad.)
Since M* brings it up, I must mention something about FIT housing, at least from my minimal experience:
the first time I stayed for a week at FIT, and other than the Friday - Sunday of the main weekend days, I had no roommate. They have a lot of empty space in the summer, so if you're staying longer than just the weekend it is very likely that you will have those other days all alone in the room.
I found this very nice because I had a rather large private room in lower Manhattan for very cheap! and with good air conditioning. Can't beat the price, IMHO.
For that matter, my roommate was coming in at very late AM times, we barely saw each other at all.
