Great Places to Visit
 |
Hi. I have started this topic because I plan to vacation in the Portland - Tillamook area this September. So I am looking for photos of Great Places to Visit in Portland (well, that's obvious) and group members whom I can meet here and then.
What's your favourite place in .pdx and why?

I like Overlook Park. It has a great scenery and it's quite open. I also REALLY like to eat and I am vegan so I have tons of places I like to be nom nom noming.
I'd also suggest checking out Last Thursday on NE Alberta. If you can, borrowing a bike and riding down the esplanade. The Farmers Market, Saturday Market and Pioneer Place all attract tourist and attention so that could potentially be fun.

This is not exactly saying where these place in Portland all are, but someone just turned me on to this collection of pictures all shot by one person while here in Portland. He lives in San Francisco.
He has really opened up the box when it come to taking picture.
Makes me want to throw all mine away and go out and start over!
Enjoy your visit Prairie Boy

Washington Park is a good place to visit. There is a lot of cool stuff in the open, free area; a Viet Nam war memorial, holocaust memorial, International Rose Garden, arboretum, and so forth. There's also a zoo and internationally renowned Japanese garden, for a fee.

Downtown is interesting. There is a ton of stuff to do there, including the items mentioned by Aayla, as well as a Chinese Garden in Chinatown.
Hawthorne Ave is an interesting place to visit, and is near Mount Tabor, a great park with a good view of Portland.
Out near Tillamook, you ought to check out the Three Capes scenic drive, from Cape Mears in the north to Cape Kiwanda in the south. This is a beautiful drive and not so busy as much of the coast. Look at a Google Map, and Cape Mears is pretty much due west of Tillamook... follow the coastline south to the two other capes.
The problem with our part of the country is, there are too many interesting things to take pictures of. :)

The Columia Gorge, a little east of Portland.
particularly the Scenic Hwy section- lots of waterfalls and hikes.
PDXsean has a good suggestion about Cape Mears, etc.
