Reflector Disc

So, I realize that I am a noob that keeps asking noob questions, but you all give SUCH great answers, that I cannot keep from asking!

I'm headed up to the cabin for the weekend (which unfortunately means I will miss the photowalk), and am hoping to get some portraits done while I am in the wilderness. I have an SB-600, but am thinking that I may want a reflector disc for the outside portraits that I will be doing. So...

1. What situations should I use a reflector disc in?

2. Which reflector disc should I buy? (brand, size, etc)

As always, I appreciate the advice!

I don't know that brand really matters too much ... but here are the things I would look for:

- Size: Generally, the larger the better. The size of the reflection given will generally only be about as large as the reflector itself. So you'll never be able to light up a group, but you may want to light up a couple (for engagement pictures, etc). But if you have a small reflector, then the most you could ever light up with be a single person.

- Reflective surfaces: I like options. I have two reflectors I carry with me. One reflector is a 5-in-1 style, it has white, black, silver, gold and translucent. Of all of those, I've used white, gold and translucent the most, but it's nice to have options. My other reflector is specifically for measuring the light. It has white, gray and black all on one surface. I can take a single shot and do both white balance and exposure adjustment at once. Then I can turn it over and use the other side (all white) as a reflector.

Is brand a big factor? I'm looking at the ProMaster 41" 5 in 1. $54 before shipping here: www.camcor.com/cgi-bin/cat/id=1176925723/Promaster_System...

Check e-bay - I just bought a full body gold/silver reflector for $16... I've also purchased a small 22" 5in1 and a 32" silver/gold both for less than $25... they work great!!

Also, in a pinch, foam core is an amazing reflector less than $3!
