I'm not sure everyone grasps the concept...

...but i could be wrong, like i say in the pool description, senses of humor can vary widely. At times, though, it seems like folks may be confusing "shots taken in portland, oregon which i find humorous" with "shots taken in portland, oregon". For the latter, i would recommend the fine PDX pool.

gumanow, creating amusing pictures is not quite the same as sporadically finding amusing shots to take pictures of. sorry, but that's only my opinion, and I'm not Admin.

while in general i'd agree with anybeth - they're kinda more "i amuse myself" than "portland amuses me" - the criteria are really only a) shot in portland, and b) you find it funny. I was really talking about shots that show up from time to time that i don't necessarily think the photograpers find funny. Like it's a sunset on the Willamette or some such. But anything shot here in Portland I'll continue to take the submitters' word that they find the shots funny.

I'd be hard pressed to find how a pretty shot of fall foliage or a wanterfront shot of the Willamette would be considered "amusing", at least in the "arousing laughter" sense. I'm of the opinion that more focused groups (like this one) benefit from a benevolent dictator who kicks photos out of the group.. but that's just me.

well, i suppose i could go through and remove some shots that i can't see any possibility that anyone might find them funny in any way... folks should feel free to explain how something i might remove is actually amusing, though.

IAAFOTS: you can always copy/paste into a new discussion thread, "How did this amuse you?" after you've deleted it.
Not that the people who've posted cliched shots of sunsets & foilage will probably even notice that they've been de-pooled....?

Yeah, I agree with Frances. People doing photo dumps aren't likely to join in a group's conversation. I'm a good apple, though, 'cause I chimed in. And I'm a frickin' cut-up. Hey hey.

I think the title and concept for this group is great!

To me "amuse" can also be on the milder side of funny; something that generally makes someone smile not necessarily laugh outright.
The dictionary puts it this way: "cause (someone) to find something funny, entertain: he made faces to amuse her" & "causing laughter or providing entertainment"

true, and i do try to stretch my concept of amusing as far as possible when weeding out the pool every now and then, but sometimes i think people just dump shots into ALL the Portland groups and they just don't fit in here (i wish i'd also put in a "no graffiti" clause but it's a little late for that now). By the way, my impromptu contest did have a winnner! Congratulations to Jahat:
