Hi and thanks Silvia for the kind invite.
I was taught at college that Illustration is a part of graphic art and is different from fine art drawing.
Not that one is better than the other in any way! - the difference is roughly;
Illustration / graphics -
A client needs something drawn / illustrated / designed ( a book cover, some packaging, a corporate logo etc) and you must respond to their instructions.
If you fulfill the brief, your work will be accepted.
Fine art -
You draw / paint etc because you have something of your own to say.
When you create a piece of work you can exhibit it and hope that someone will share your vision enough to purchase it.
I studied painting and drawing and the ultimate sly dig by a tutor at someone's work was;
to a painter - ' your work is quite graphic'
to a graphic designer - 'oh! that's really quite painterly'
Silly I know, but I guess because of that I will always think of myself as a painter rather than an illustrator - for no other reason than that of the intention behind my work.

hi lost4words!
well, what I personally think is just that people ABSOLUTELY need to define with strict words what they do, otherwise they get LOST! I think it's just a question of terms we use but it's basically the same stuff!
I decided to call the group like this because i wanted to make a NEW thing: you see, there are many groups about painting on Flickr, but all really general. The word illustration comes from the latin "make clear" or "make light" on something. My idea, infact, was to "enlight" the process that the artist does to represent reality, which can be seen in many subjective and interesting ways!

That's good thinking and this is a nice group. There is some excellent work in the pool already - you must be pleased you started this.

I am REALLY pleased! now two of my friends that study illustration in my same course are moderators too. As I said earlier on, I'll be happy to promote who's gonna submit a good amount of works and be active part of this group!
enjoy!

oh, don't worry, modified is fine as long that the realistic aspect can still be perceived!

Thanks for the invite!
I'm still trying to find some of my old sketchbooks, I've missplaced some during my moves over the years, but once I find them all I'll be adding lots of new pics of some of my old drawings.
