Hey Teaeff!

yeah man, I would love to include your shot in the exhibition! is it from Middlesbrough?

I am pretty new to flickr but keen az to get as many shots from around the world as poss... putting them together into a massive montaged print.

I've found a few threads on the subject but am unsure about the best way of making contact with people. is it best to add them as a contact??

cheers..

Yeah it is from Middlesbrough, it is actually the first pair of shoes on a line that I have seen (I think...), so I took a photo of it.

The best way would probably be to send people messages: click on their name (not the icon) to get to their profile, from which you can send private messages. This is probably a good idea since alot of people are members of many groups and may not keep track of all the discussions. Adding people as contacts would be a good idea too though, most people appreciate that and it would mean you would be able to keep track of everyone.

I would suggest doing that for images you want to use. There is the whole Creative Commons thing too, which you will need to look into as people will have different permissions set for their photos (shown as a symbol next to the photo properties on each page)
flickr.com/creativecommons/
I don't know how much you know about copyright and CC, but all the info is there, or linked to that site.

If you are looking for more photos there are several similar groups to this:
flickr.com/groups_search.gne?q=shoes+lines

and a tag search may also be useful, particularly the advanced search:
flickr.com/photos/search/text:shoes+line/sort:relevance/
flickr.com/photos/search/text:shoes+wire/sort:relevance/

People who don't have pro accounts, like me, cannot host their original extra-large photos, so if you need these you may have to get them to email you them.

Hope that helps.

If you would like my original I would be happy to send it.

I guess flickr would be a great source for this, since alot of people will tag the photos with the location, which would allow for you to make some kind of location map. that would be good, hah.

Thanks so much Tom, I really appreciate your help & sharing your understanding of Flickr.. the creative commons will be good to read.

I would love to include the shot of the Middlesbrough sneakers, I'm looking at reproducing them quite small in a 'mosaic' type way with the photographers name & location shown so the image off flickr will be fine.

I love the idea of mapping them out also, will be a nice touch!

I'll keep adding to my flicker space with more sneakers from NZ & will keep in touch to let you know how the project progresses..

thanks again, look forward to catchin up soon.

cheers,

Glad to be of help.
CC relates to the permissions people allow for their photos, but contacting everyone you want to include would definately be a good idea.

Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
