Ok, just as a quick update, I have tried a few more things to try and figure this problem out. I have now updated to 2.5.1 with no success. I have also tried using both IE and Firefox to illiminate that and tried different networks (in home and at work) to illiminate any problems there. I have also tried yet another API key with no success and tried different types of API (desktop, web and mobile) all with the same error.
Im struggling with what i should try next? I cant give up on this.
Thanks for your help so far.

another quick update on my list of elimination's. I have now tried ie7, firefox and safari with no luck. I am also having the same problem with a friends website that i set up. We tried a total reinstall of wordpress including a new database, trying to link to a new flickr account, but still no change. The only link i can think of between my site and his is that we both host with streamline.net, could that have anything to do with it? I think i am now totally out of ideas. I hope my testing is helping.

Hi Neil,
I think this error is because your server can't communicate with the flickr.com server... probably because something is blocking outgoing network connections.
Try installing the php script on this page and see if it works:
code.google.com/p/photo-album/wiki/KnownIssues

Hi I tried that php script and all I got was done. Does that mean that my server is working fine?

If it works correctly, you actually should see the Flickr.com homepage, instead of just "done".

Hi Joe,
Thanks for sticking with this post and trying to help me fix this. I tried the script, but similar to other people all i get is the message "done." If this does mean that there is a server communication problem can you suggest anything i can try to correct this?
Thanks

I have exactly the same problem. I also had it with another Flickr plugin I tried. Now, I tried the script above and I also got "Done", however, any other website I put into the script, inplace of www.flickr.com does appear, followed by "Done".
Has their been some change made at Flickr? www.google.com, www.yahoo.com etc all work, but Flickr.... I just get "done".
This is driving me insane, as it was all working just fine until this weekend. I've restored from backups, been into the database to check everything is there and it's all fine.... I just can't understand it.
My PHP info shows:
curl
cURL support enabled
cURL Information libcurl/7.10.6 OpenSSL/0.9.7a ipv6 zlib/1.1.4

brightonian, you might want to check with your server host and make sure they're not blocking flickr.

Hi Joe. Unfortunately my host is hopeless when it comes to customer service so for now i have tried changing over to their windows based server to see if this will change anything. I will keep you posted with the results. Between then and now, if you think of anything i can try please let me know. Any ideas why it would work for a short time and then stop working?
cheers again

Neil - I am *also* with Streamline.net (I hadn't noticed this before in this thread).......
I have done an:
(and done the IP too)
and it coughs and splutters. This *must* be a Streamline.net issue.... when I went to the shell, I couldn't tracert because I'm not a "superuser", so I don't know where the issue is. However, their DNS is pointing at the correct IP address, because I did a ping (sadly security stops all pings coming back, so I couldn't test this either, but it did resolve to an IP)
I have opened a ticket with support..... first reply was "we don't help with scripts", second reply (when I pointed out the script wasn't the problem) was a kind of "so what is the problem here again?" reply and I should get a reply back again in the morning.
Maybe we should all find a way of escalating this?

I have now completed the server change to windows, but I still have no luck. As i stated before, i have two seperate accounts i can "play" with but both are with streamline, so if you need my help on an escalation just give me a shout.
Joe: Is there anything you can be specific about that is causing the problem so that we can ask streamline to change it? They are hopeless at working things out, you need to spell it out for them.
Cheers and hopefuly we will get this sorted soon.

Update:
I opened a ticket with streamline to try and resolve the problem and they have replied with this: "There are no blocks on external software in this manner on the servers"
Hopeless!
Whats the next step then?

I'm further down the line, I got "we do not help with scripting, see Google! I persisted and they are now looking into the issue further. I tested with "incude" and "curl" and put two test scripts (http://www.whereinsussex.org.uk/test1.php test2.php and include.php) on my webspace for them. test1.php and test2.php are curl and include is obviously include. One of the test php scripts is for www.google.co.uk, to prove that works!
We'll see what happens next!

Im glad you are getting something out of them. It probably helps that you seem to know what you are talking about and i dont, im just picking up bits from what other people say and trying to run with it. If you need me to test anything or need my help just leave me a message. We will get to the bottom of this!

hey i have the solution for the problem! i talked with my hoster and he said that the server is blocking outgoing connections! he said that i should gave him the ip's to open a connection to flickr!
so send a mail to your hoster with the flickr ip (ping flickr) and the script is working perfectly!

It's working for me now, I guess they sorted it, although they never e-mailed back again.... but now I have a PHP error.... when I click on Save Settings under Collections or Groups

hey guys - - I'm having this problem too, just found this forum and I'm trying to piece together how to fix it based on your responses.
It looks like everyone said the problem just disappeared - can anyone help me out, cause it's still existing for me?
UPDATE:
Can someone also tell me where I can find Flickr's IP?
UPDATE AGAIN:
In case anyone else finds this thread looking for the info, it's:
68.142.214.24 port 80
