It`s not a good zoom range on a digital body because you`ll be lacking a true wide angle. The new 18-55mm image stabilized kit lens that comes with the XSI is supposed to be a big improvement on the one that came with the XT and XTI. What do you want the lens for? Do you need wide angle? Longer reach?

Just a longer reach. I have an 18-55 at the moment.
I'm not really interested in a 70-200 or 70-300 at this time either.

If you are going to use it out doors, stopped down, it will probably work well enough. It's a cheap zoom.

I have this lens and find it's not too bad really, at f/5.6 - f/8 it performs pretty well. It got an 8.5 out of 10 on fred miranda's website. Since I use the 10-22mm for my landscape work I find the 28-105mm is decent for a general walk around lens. The price is right.

It's a good lens, but the new 55-250 IS is a better choice for similar money if you already have an 18-55.

Thanks guys.
Yeah I guess what I'm looking for is a decent walk around lens. So I like that the range on the lens is 24 for decent wider angles as opposed to starting in the 50-70 mm range.
This 135 f 2L....does anyone have a link for that lens?

The 135mm f/2 L is a great lens, but probably not what you're looking for. Also, I guess cheap is a relative term, as the lens is over $1100. I'm really not even sure why DimsumDarren would suggest it, frankly, as it isn't even a zoom lens.
I'd suggest you also take a look at the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM and the 28-200mm f/2 F3.5-5.6 USM. They're in a much better price range AND focal range. While I'm here, in Canada I'd also recommend consulting www.photoprice.com before ANY lens purchases. You can never be too informed!
