They look very nice! I really like the positioning in the first two, and the light in the first one is almost perfect (the little sliver above the eye is a minor fault).
One small nit to pick, though. I see some very slight blur, and on looking at the EXIF data, it looks like the first two had a pretty long exposure. My suggestion would be to speed that up a little, just to start from a sharp focus. Then you can use your software to soften specific areas if desired.
Other than that, it looks like very nice work.

They are all lovely portraits...
but they look a bit out of focus (I saw them large because here the appear squashed to me...)
I love #1, the light is lovely

I like the first 2, especially the lighting. But the image is not crisp (when you look at the biggest file).
Agreed with Steve, to avoid the long exposure, you could have increased iso (watch for noise), use a flash, or use tripod.

regarding processing, I think they look good. The last has a bit of a blue cast.

They look nice. The first and last one seem soft to my eye. I like the feel of the first one especially, though the sunglasses are a distraction.

I like these but they are soft. I really like the first one and I don't find the sunglasses a distraction.
as for your editing software, PSP is not bad! I would suggest you buy a nice portrait lens before the new software, something like the 85 f/1.8 and work on getting your shutter speed up and focus on the eyes.
good luck

Good advice, poppaJ. Sarah, what lens are you using on your XTi? If the 85 is too much, you might even want to consider the 50/1.8 II lens. It can be had for a song, and it works great for portraits.
I use both Photoshop Elements and CS3, and Elements probably does 90% of what you'd ever need. I'm not sure of how Elements compares with PSP, though.

I think you did a good job with the exception of the blur on the first and third. Even if you just sharpened the eyes it would help a bunch.

the 50 f/1.8 can be had for $100 or less. If you can't come up with that then try your kit lens around f/5.6 at 40-45mm and remember to keep your shutter speed up to eliminate camera shake.
I'm sure going between to different programs would be confusing, my wife picked a color correction book for me that's written for photoshop, tricky getting the same results with PSP, I started with 8 and now very happy with version X.
I agree with jamesrdoe, sharpen the eyes!
good luck, keep shooting
