This is quite good, the tones are nice, and the shallow DOF gives it some depth, and makes the girl's face pop.

I like the angle of her face. Is there a specific reason you went away from color?

there is a lot of detail. I like that. Also for the outfit that is seen in this picture, also the makeup, black and white was a great way to go. Your camera has good detail and that makes black and whites all the better.

It's a winner. The blacks are very black.. Nice detail. Really drawn in by her eyes.

Is the blurriness of the necklace caused by movement or DOF?

Black English : The colors were like... shy, her outfit was already black and white and i thought that would be better in black and white. It's like this picture ask me to be in black and white, just naturally. :)

Airchinapilot : The blurriness is caused by DOF. (I shot it in 1/1600)

Thanks everyone for your comments here !

What camera was this shot on ? Is it a 30mm on a crop sensor. I agree with all the comments above but I do think its a bit wide for my liking. I know portraits can be shot a bit wider ... I guess I am getting old and set in my ways :(

The interaction between model and camera is what is a winner and I guess that makes the shot a good one despite the moanings of an approaching middle aged git.

Good shot

joseph.story : Yes, sorry, forgot to tell about the camera, it's a digital one (eos 350d), so it's like a 50mm...

I'll try others portrait with the 90-300 which will allow me to make closer portrait. I tryed to get closer with the 30mm but it became too blur... that's why here the framing is not only a choice but also a technical limit...

:)

90mm is perfect for portraits
you did a good job though here

the only thing I don't like is the 'too much make up round her eyes'
make her look at least a decade older

and as joseph.story said:
