Made in England - BBC Arts project for Sussex & Surrey
 |
Hi all
Apologies for cross-posting if you've seen this in another group.
The BBC is launching a new Arts project on 23rd April, entitled "Made in England", which looks at the way England is depicted by its artists, and how England shapes artists.
I'm producing the content for BBC Southern Counties Radio, and as part of it I'm collecting photos of Sussex, Surrey and NE Hants for an online gallery.
I'm looking for photos that tell you something about a town or village, maybe an unusual perspective or an "arty" way of looking at a place, and I thought I'd contact you to see if anyone on this group wanted to take part.
The website will be launched on 23rd April (St George's Day, if you were wondering why that particular date) but I'm looking for content in advance of then.
Being the BBC there's no fee (sorry!) but you'll get full credit and a link to your Flickr site if you want it. If you'd like to take part, please select your best 3 or 4 pictures and let me know the location.
And if you'd like more info about the project, please send me a Flickrmail, or email melita.dennett@bbc.co.uk
Cheers in advance for your help
Melita

Just thought I'd ask about the terms and conditions as the BBC has been quite bad in the past for photo competitions where "submission grants us (the beeb) a worldwide licence to do what we want with your photos and keep any monies we may make".
Paraphrasing slightly, but you get the idea.

Sorry,
I've had my fingers burnt submitting photographs to the BBC website before (2006). And yes, I failed to read all the small print. And yes some of the photographs ended up everywhere.
I think its a bit rich saying there is no fee being the BBC, as the BBC does have methods and recomended amounts for paying for photographs. And yes I have since sold images to the BBC. What your really mean, is you don't have any budget to cover image purchase and would like people to donate rights to use images if they feel happy.
I am not saying to people don't submit an image, but they need to consider its true value. Knowing the rules, and terms up front would help people make that choice.
Also, some national land owners and heritage organisations have rules regarding commercial photography, and while giving it to the BBC for free may sound good, the BBC will make commercial use of it. This would deprive these organisations own commerical photo library of income, and any photographers who had purchased rights to take commercial photographs at those sites.
Just some thoughts.
