I just got a 3-speed Schwinn Varsity at a yard sale, it has a 1960 bike license decal and a fin on the front fender. The gears are kind of hincty, trying to fix those this week but it's rideable as is.

Awesome. Gwen, you can look for the serial number on the bike, and find the exact year and month it was made here!
Also, if you want an excellent tune-up from a vintage Schwinn expert, the historic Fabers Cyclery in San Jose is right near a Caltrain station - they made my Schwinn ride like a dream!!

Yeah, I looked at that and it doesn't make sense to me, my serial is F77464 [picture here] which that list says is on 11/21/52 -- except there were no Varsitys until 1960? I'm mad at my bike anyway, it threw me last week and my leg's still sore ;)

I'm ziiipping around in sunny San Juan in a nice vintage English 28 inch 3-speed black Pashley roadster with black enameled drum brake hubs and rims, no fenders (important), Brooks honey saddle, small chrome Lucas bell and some nice Michelin tires, really beats all those neon city slickers! Picts uploaded soon .

I'm riding my 1948 Lygie with a Campagnolo Corsa changer. Not easy to change gear at present, but a nice comfortable ride. It hasa saddle like a comfortable armchair.

I will ride a few bikes from my collection , but the bike I will ride in vintage rides will be my 1938 Tyrone flyer and my wife will ride her 1937 Raleigh sport special or her 1965 Moulton deluxe.

My Bernard Dangre to go to the city, but not too much because I want to keep the original tyres in good condition ;-) I'm going to pick up my first track bike this sunday and an old Flandria racing bicycle. I'll get them ready for spring.

I'm riding my 1969 Raleigh Superbe around Portland, Oregon this summer. It is a gents model and being a lady I happily just purchased a 1964 Ladies Raleigh Sports for $40 today which will need some TLC before it is ridden. These bikes are addictive, watch out!

In June I started commuting on a Trek 820
(vintage? Well, okey)

Then in July via Freecycle I acquired an unknown vintage
Japanese made steel "10 speed" road bike
which has replaced the Trek

The real vintage bike tho
is an ALAN that just fell into my lap

I haven't worked up
the nerve to commute on it yet 'cause I start my
shift at 12:00 a.m.

With a few local Classic lightweight events , a couple of small wheel events and a couple of local roadster events I hope to give a few of
my machines a run out this year plus riding my modern Mercian's with the local road club.
Can not believe it is a year since we posted on this thread of Paula's

I have stopped collecting and am selling a few bikes to make room for more. An old man gave me 16 bikes which i had to take to get 3 i wanted . I got a shock when i counted 93 bikes ! so i have ground to a halt until i off load a few that i do not want.

I think quality is better than quantity, I'm almost at that same point, thin it out a little.

Hi......i just joined this group(hope it's ok!)and added some pics of a few of my bikes. I've got lot's more!!.....lol.... I think the bike i'll be riding the most this summer is my 1974 Paramount. I just got it this past fall, and i'm looking forward to racking up some real miles on it!
I guess for lil' neighborhood cruises, i'll ride either my 1959 Schwinn Debutante or my 1961 Schwinn Corvette rat bike.....lol...
Anyway, this seems to be a great group, and i look forward to contributing... Nice to meet you! :)

I know this is an old topic, but we are looking at photos of old bikes, so why not bring an old topic back to life.
Just got my first "old bike" , an 1959 Schwinn Tiger.

I have posted a few picks for now in my photostream, with many more to follow.
Looking forward to the "new" ride.

1969 Armstrong all original. I haven't been on her in about 12 years, so i bought her new tires and such and cleaned her up. She runs great, though the knees aren't as young as they use to be.
