Chris 531 kindly let me know that Sheldon Brown (1944 - 2008), one of the principals of Harris Cyclery, and creator of several invaluable vintage-related bike websites, has passed away from a heart attack, after a few years of poor health.

Sheldon Brown helped people across the world with information and help with their vintage and custom bikes maintenance and building. His Retro Raleighs site is chock full of info about British-made Raleighs and Carltons.

After being on Flickr now for a little while, I have really begun to appreciate the communication with people from all over the world.

I think that's what he was all about, spreading the word of bicycles and working on them. I've visited his site several times now since getting into 3spd's. The man new so much and he was trying to share it as much as possible. The thing's that come from ones passing hopefully change others ways of thinking. Life is really short, try to share what you know as much as you can with people.

Cruise on happily, dvd (stillkickin)- open heart surgery last March, hereditary issue was an Aortic Anuerysm.

Sheldon was the true spirit of Bicycling when he was with us now he's our Guardian Angel. I've exchanged emails with him and even though we never met face to face he always made me feel like we've been ridding together for years, to me that's the true spirit of cycling.
