Digitial Inking
 |
Digital Inking is something I'd like to learn/work on. Does anyone have any tips, tricks for doing nice digital inks?

Use a Wacom tablet. Digital inking with a mouse just isn't the same...

It's possible to do some great stuff using a Wacom, but I still prefer the results I get from traditional dip pens.
I know BMAN (www.twilighttangents.com) gets awesome results using the pen brushes in Painter. He inks all his stuff digitally.

I'm not big on Digital Inking myself. I use photoshop for things like drawing panel borders and some lettering, and I do use it for touch-up and cleaning up here and there.
Bruce Lewis on the other hand prefers to 'ink' in the computer. The way I understand it is that first he pencils his page, then he takes that page and light tables it for a page of clean pencils. The second page of pencils is scanned and the 'inking' is done by tweeking the contrast of the scan and cleaning up the image in photoshop and illustrator....

Currently that is close to what I do, without the extra clean pencil step. Mostly photoshop trickery to keep my lines dark. I'm not satisfied with the result though, and see myself moving towards normal inks soon.
