Only one tiny thing I would suggest to change:
On my logged-in view of this page: flickr.com/photos/carowallis1/collections/72157594587017563/
It says 'Edit mosiac for this collection' instead of 'mosaic'.

The images in the small size mosaic on my main page are too small to see. I'd rather have fewer than 12 images and be able to see them beyond a vague sense of greenness or brownness.

First of all, thanks for the new tool ! Now, the bugs ;-)
The mosaic creator doesn't seem to work properly, the drag & drop is capricious, especially for the last row and when using individual photos from sets. Haven't been able to crate a proper mosaic yet.
Also, the first mosaic, automatically generated, seems to use the "front" photo of each set contained in the collection BUT only for the first 4 sets (after that, it keeps on using photos from within that 4th set, instead of using the front photo of each subsequent set).

With the medium sized pictures as a chosen layout -
Losing the line breaks makes it look annoying (as someone with a lot of text in their descriptions)
I can't see hyperlinks in my photo descriptions on the front page, but others can, is that right? Maybe to stop that thing where you click on them and then sort of edit at the same time?

Dragging from bottom row into a mosaic not only doesn't work with Firefox 1.5.0.4, not more than a few times anyway, it causes mosaic rearrangement to fail too after I give up. Sometimes the thumbnail I am trying to move is a few hundred pixels above its correct location and the location of my mouse.

ive created a few collections, but when i click on any of them (example) they are empty - but do have sets in them when i view in organiser.
i am presuming there a slight lag time cos everyone is experimenting :)
edit: yeah, all is fine now. there was indeed a slight lag :)

HTML entered into the collection description doesn't render as HTML.
However, if I then edit the description on the collection page and save, the HTML works. Leaving the page and returning causes the HTML tags to be displayed as text again.

Only had one or two problems with the mosaics. A few times the thumbnail refused to stay in the mosaic box. Otherwise great. Using Firefox 2.0.0.2

A request for layout options: Both collections AND sets in the right column. For example, I might want to put the two latest chronological sets (two different events) at the top, followed by three themed sets (say, "flowers," "food," and "live music"), and then collections (of sets and "loose photos") for 2007, 2006, 2005, etc.
Maybe you could add a "Layout" tab to Organizr for ordering the right column? This order could be different than the regular set ordering/collection ordering, which are currently separate.
It seems to work pretty well for me otherwise, though!

From what I can see testing it out just now, you can only add a collection to another collection AT THE TIME OF CREATION of the collection.
So, if I say, Create new Collection... then I can drag an existing collection from the list below it into the new collection.
BUT, if it's an existing collection, there appears to be no way to drag another existing collection to it.
Is this right? Can you clarify?

actually - i am having a problem...
in firefox where i am logged in with this flickr account i see that this collection has two sets. (firefox 2,002)
in safari (logged in with a different flickr account) the same link above shows just the title "2007 travel" but no sets :(
(using mac with everything up todate)

in the FAQ, part of the answer to, "How are the random images chosen for my collection mosaic?" reads In fact, if the photo contains even one single public photo, we will only use public photos to build the mosaic.
is that first 'photo' supposed to be set? or collection? the whole answer to that Q is a bit murky, but i haven't had a play with collections yet so maybe i'll figure it out.
and thanks, it's been a while coming but should be an awesome feature!

Brenda Anderson: any given collections can only contain collections or sets. If it already contains sets, you can't add collections into it. If it contains collections, you can't drag sets into it. So, it isn't set at the time of creation, but when you drag the first thing into it. (If you drag all sets out of a collection, you can then drag collections into that same collection.)

The earlier reported set dragging problem with Firefox 1.5 is also true for firefox 2.0. The Mosaic maker also covers up the picture findr on a browser window that covers most of a 1024x768 screen, so it's hard to see what is there..
Didn't there used to be a place to edit set details from within the organizr? I must be going blind cuz I can't find it any more.

I'm with others here, the medium-sized image layout is cool, but it shows too much text from the descriptions, and the text is ugly with no line breaks or html or links. With larger descriptions the text ends up dominating the photo page, when with medium-sized photos it should be the images that take over the page.
Would really like to see that go back to the first one two lines of the description, then a "..." or whatever.

It's a good start.
But for me, the point of calling "sets of sets" in the past was that I had in mind that you could choose to have sets, as well as sets of sets in the set. See, it's equally confusing to read.
And the layout option is great, but then again we're not quite there. I like to keep my newly created sets at the top, but I would then like to have my collections placed after a couple of those sets. So now I'm torn between "advertising" a new set, or making browsing user-friendly. sniffle.
It would also have been nice, when viewing a photo, to be able to quickly spot that this photo is part of a collection, just like we can quickly spot that the photo is part of other sets.

When creating a mosaic for an empty collection, it says
"You must first drag collections or sets into this collection! You can't build an mosaic for a collection that does not have any sets in it."
That should be "a mosaic", not "an"

When creating a collections mosaic, there is the option: "Replacement images can be dragged up from the findr below." although, the way it's set up, the mosaic window hides most of the pictures, making it difficult to drag them up.

That does seem to be a break from the Flickr user interface (that I love). Literally every element of a photostream is only a single click away; every image tells me what set it's in, and is a single click away from that set or the photostream. But images have no direct navigation to the Collection that they're in (or collections, as the case may be) so when I'm looking at an image, I can't navigate to its collection(s), only to it's set(s) or photostream.
it makes me feel like the Collections are a navigational branch, a side-alley in a way. I dunno I'm not really describing this right, but instinctively I'm getting a strange vibe so far. will continue to play.

Hm. I would have preferred if the page layout had been an option of the viewer. Now we have small photos here, medium photos there, sets here, no sets there, and if there are no sets on the stream page we have to head over tho the sets page to see if there are really no sets at all or if they just aren't displayed. *sigh*
And I don't think I like the "medium size" flavor of the stream. There are only 5 photos where there used to be 18 before! Far too few, and too much wasted white space between them. Fortunately this affects the first page only … phew. I was afraid at first that the entire photostream would be broken up into pages of 5 photos each. But at least there should be a link on the photo page to switch the view back to the "classic" layout, just like we can switch search results between "detail" and "thumbnail" views. A thumbnail view of the stream with more photos per page would be even better.
And I'm with Mark & The Zebra — the grey background pulls the attention away from the photos to the set thumbnails. Can that be a bit less bold? Or maybe the photos should be on gray and the set thumbnails on white, that would be less distracting (I think).

I would rather not have a link on each photo to the collection(s) it is in. That, to me, would be too cluttered. If you are looking at a photo and see that it's in a set, you can click on the set. On the set page, it then shows you at the top, all the collections that set is in.

Is there a way to convert an existing set into a collection, and break the photos in that set down into smaller sets? I already have a set called Critters, but it would be good to be able to make separate groupings of (say) Birds, Reptiles and Mammals within the existing set.

eww! photos NOT on gray, please. I'm ambivalent about the gray bar for sets, in some ways it may actually help frame the photo space. but NOT under the photos, please.
[I can see how this is going, we already all want different things. glad I'm not a Flickr staffer!.I also would not want the viewer to be given the choice of view. Some of the options hurt my eyes, I wouldn't want the images to be presented that way.
brenda: I don't want more crap on the sidebar of the photo page, either. But at least how that folder-like linking is on the sets, why can't that be present on the photo page as well:
The Searcher > Collections> Art
Then it maintains a unified structure for the site. Right now it feels like a branch (right down to the layout choices) either I navigate via sets, or I navigate via collections. and if I get to an image, I no longer have the choice of navigating via collections, except by travelling through sets. I just want one more link to close the loop. I think. still working on it.]

I was able to modify the mosaic for my first 3 collections, but I was getting the same "thumb appears at top of window" bug for the last collection I made. I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.2 on OS X 10.4.8 (Intel).
Also, I wish there was a way to show both collections and sets on my pages? I'd like to not have to put everything into collections and still have "orphan" sets show up in the sidebar.

In "medium" view I see only the left half of the photos. Shouldn't that be .StreamView { width: 500px; } for the medium sized photos in the CSS file, rather than
.StreamView { width: 250px; } ?

From the FAQ:
First, go to the Organizr. Under the Sets and Collections tab, you'll see a link to create a new collection.
There is nothing under Sets and Collections tab. The Sets and Collections just don't load in the Organizr. It did earlier, but after I made some collections, not anymore.

I created my first collection ( flickr.com/photos/cobalt/collections/72157594587200439/ )
and it went well. I was not able to drag the initial images around in the mosaic at all. I was not able to initially drag new images into the mosaic from the original mosaic shown. However, I was able to "save" the mosaic and when I called it up from the "Edit collection" link from the collection, then I could drag and drop images from the sets into the mosaic.
I have great hopes for how I can use this feature. Thank you again, flickr staff!
PS. I merged my account today with a flickr ID and lo-and-behold it WORKED! Woohoo! Woohoo again!

Drag and drop didnt work to the mosaic on IE6, from bottom set bar....... opening the collection the written header text is muddled at top and type size is small compared to set type size, which is great.
Mosaic display on page should be bigger than standard set size, kinda defeats the draw user in purpose if no image can be identified.
Few bugs to iron out it seems but beyond expectations in concept and very user friendly....big bravo!!!

I don't mean to be a naysayer here. But I was hoping for something a little easier. Now instead of just keeping track of sets of which I have hundreds, I have to keep track of two things collections and sets. I was hoping to divide each set into digital and film, now I have to create double the amount of sets anyway to put in a collection and try and make sure I get all those sets in the correct collection. Then keep track of the photos I add to each set. Do you understand what I mean?
I create a collection of my coin sets, I have maybe 40+ sets, but the sets just don't disappear into the collection like they would in say a folder in windows, so I could accidentally and very easily forget to add a set to this collection and not realize it for months or years.
It's a nice idea, but makes organization for someone like me much more complicated and difficult. Thanks for the thought though.

I couldn't manage to drag and drop pictures from the findr to the mosaic, the pictures I drag always fall back down and don't stay in the mosaic although I selected the set I want to drag from in the mosaic dialog. Perhaps a little bug? Or does it work for others?

First: thank you! I've been hoping for collections for quite awhile and am very happy to see you guys have put so much work into this. Of course, that means I have a few suggestions ;)
It would be wonderful if you could add stray photos to a collection. Ideally, collections should be able to contain other collections, sets or photos at the same level. As Tiffibunny says, right now I'm actually making more sets to add a "misc" set into a collection.
For example: I've created a "Travel in the US" collection. Within that, I have quite a few sets such as "Grand Canyon", "Baltimore", etc. But, I've been to NY and DC quite a few times, so I'd also like to be able to put collections those trips on the same "level" as the single sets. And then - any left over pictures could be dropped into the main collection.Does that make any sense?
Again, not trying to complain, just thinking of ways to make a good thing even better.
@limone: sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. I think it gets "tired" after awhile. ;)

Me too. I was disappointed when that didn't work.
As an alternative I would like to open just a collection's worth of sets in the organizer as potential targets so I don't have to deal with the obnoxious "scroll and drop your photos in the wrong set" feature that kicks in if I don't carefully center the target set in the middle of the window. (That "feature" of scrolling when you go near the edge has never done anything useful for me and has caused me a lot of annoyance.)
