These watch towers used to line the Wall (the border between East and West Berlin/Germany), to help protect East Germans from going astray and crossing the border to the capitalist West - at gun point, if necessary. Now, some 18 years after the fall of the iron curtain, this tower is one of the few pieces of concrete left in place, to remind us of times today's German youth has not even experienced first hand.
