Homage to Edgerton (3D - Cross-View)

A reproduction of Harold Edgerton's famous milk drop.
To view this this stereo photo in 3D:
1. Cross your eyes slowly until you see three images;
2. Then focus on the middle image and you will begin to see it in the third dimension. Stereo viewing requires practice; if you cannot see it within a few minutes, come back to this image at a later time and do try again. -Also try viewing the pictures at different distances from your monitor, or with difference size images.
I took this picture on Velvia slide film in 1993 using a Medium Format Macro 3D camera that was built by the English stereo expert, David Burder.

Beautiful splash crown. I am fan of the two
techniques: Splash and 3D. Congratulations!

This is great! Do you recall what your
shutter speed was, and is the stereo camera
like the macro realist?

I used a sound trigger with the camera in the
dark and shutter open. The microphone was
attached under the red plastic. - I
amplified the sound of the drop through a
speaker and moved the triggering microphone
further or closer to the speaker to control
the timing. The camera (which I borrowed)
was a converted Medium Format SLR. There were
two waterhouse stop type diaphragms inside a
single lens. - Small mirrors or prisms
inside the camera in a periscope arrangement
were used to spread the images so that they
did not overlap. - The waterhouse stops
could be changed with a dial to yield
different stereo bases inside the single
lens.
