No, but I was being pretty cautious. This was
taken about 5 minutes after the broadway
bridge incident.

I wish I could zoom in on this delicious
picture. I love the detail and lighting
...excellent. What do I need to do tone
mapping?

This isn't HDR or tone mapping. I did this by
hand. I shot three exposures using my
camera's AEB feature. (-2,0,+2). I took the
three exposures, layered them on top of each
other in Photoshop and used a transparent
eraser on each layer to get the look I
wanted.

The archways are just marvelous. I think you
should enter your bridge shots in local fairs
and competitions. Of the ones I've seen, this
one is most pleasing to me for the archway
illuminations. Unfortunately the skyline
doesn't do justice to the bridge, but what is
a photographer to do?!

Was this following the tutorial video ? Great
result - any chance you might post the
originals, I'd love to see what you did with
them! :-)

Done with masks? Nice work! That takes some
time to get all the details right.
I tried some multi-exposure shots yesterday
@ the beach and tried to combine them as HDR but
couldn't get it to come out right. I think I
like your approach better although it seems
like it would be fairly time consuming
without some more intelligent masking tools
than what PS provides (or maybe just my
limited understanding of how to work with
them).

Layering isn't too hard. I look at the
exposures and figure out what I want from
each and start erasing. It sort of feels like
dodging with a real exposure.
The sky can be tricky. In this case I did a
"select color range" on the top to
limit myself to the sky and started to erase
to bring in the sky from the lower layer.
I think your image is a tad bit dark,
especially by the shell. You can also use the
transparent eraser on different variants of
the same image. In your image, you could up
the shadows by 30% or so as a separate layer
and then start erasing to get the look you
want.

Yea, well you've got it for your icon so I
defer to your Stone Arch Master greatness. I
think taking a night photo of it is a right
of passage for a Twin Cities photographer. My
only problem is that I can't stop taking
shots of it ;-)

If taking great photos were a crime, consider
yourself a felon. This one is spectacular.

the +2 was a 30 second exposure, so it was
basically press the button, wait 15 seconds
for it to start and then a minute and a half
to take it. Doesn't sound long, but it feels
like an eternity.
