Last year, while rummaging through my attic, I came across a small box of photos left by a previous owner. The fifty or so prints (several of them duplicates) were all formal portraits of the same Catholic nun, and appear to have been taken over the course of twenty or thirty years. None were dated, and there was no name or any other identifying information on any of them, although I believe that her habit is that of the Sisters of Mercy. They used to run several schools here in town, so perhaps she was an educator? I really haven’t a clue as to who she was or how a photomontage of her adult life ended up in my attic. Deciding that they may well be functioning as some sort of talismanic protection (ha!), I returned the photos to the box and the box to its far corner under the eaves, for some future owner to discover and wonder about.
