Looks otherworldly. And a Dr Pepper sign to
boot!

Gas station? Unreal!
Yeah, did ya get a close up of the Dr.
Pepper sign?

The DP sign is not all that special but I did
take another shot of the canopy from the side
which shows that sign better. It'll go up at
the website when I get home in April
sometime.

This one fascinates me. It's hard to tell the
size it was. But it's awesomely cool!

It's awesome but my favorite bit is the
"F O O D M A R T" lettering.

The "Food Mart" lettering along
with the gray and red paint color makes me
believe that this was a former Texaco Gas
Station.

Nice! There's a former gas station like this,
now a car dealership lot, in Salt Lake City.
I've tried to get pictures of it but the
surroundings have a ton of power lines and
the area is overall hideous.

samwibatt: You must go get photos of it -- esp. with
the way things are going in your town... Or
at a minimum, let me know where this baby is
so I might get a peek at it on my journey
home (if I don't run out of time in CA).

I got pictures of the place and uploaded them
just now - here and here. I'm not really happy with them, but like I
said the area is pretty grim. I put the
address in the description and mapped them.
There are a couple of interesting things near
there, like the Nightmare on 13th spook alley
faux-castle on 1300 S. just west of 300 W.

Interesting structure! I really like the
flags on the top. Thanks for sending the
links. Grim is good! I spend most of my
time on the wrong side of the tracks since
that's where the good old stuff is. I've got
my NY street sense and four barking,
ankle-biting dogs to protect me!

Oh, I don't think the area is dangerous, just
kind of bleak and ugly. That kind of grim.

I wonder if this is related to the similar
design in Oklahoma City...

You must mean this one:

It's different but does have a similar
flair. I have never seen other examples of
either of them.
