a gas mask doesn't necessarily have to stand
for war, there are more ways to interpret
certain objects when you think about it a bit
deeper
at first it might remind most people of war
related images, and it might seem weird to
combine this with lingerie, but when you
think about it you realise there are so much
more possible interpretations, and there is
no way of telling which one the artist meant.
(which, in my opinion, is more enjoyable than
when an interpretation is literally given
without any chance to make up your own mind
about what an artwork means to you)
for example, I see a gas mask as something
that is used when the air around you isn't
healthy enough to breathe, it makes me think
about suffocation, trying to find a way to
breathe in an environment where it is almost
impossible to.
and lingerie may mean sexiness and erotic
things to a lot of men but it means an
entirely different thing to women. It's
something very personal, the pressure you
feel about having to be sexy and beautiful
can be something a lot of women hate but it
is also something a lot of women use to
desperately seek attention. And sometimes
having to be all of that makes you feel like
you're suffocating as well.
but hey, maybe she just saw the lingerie
and saw the mask and thought to herself:
"that looks pretty weird together"
It came out to be a nice picture anyway.
