Myanmar - 緬甸

My month in Myanmar.

Some tips if you want to go to this incredible country.

1.) Avoid bus travel whenever you can. My most pleasant excursions were the ferry ride from Bagan to Mandalay or the train ride from Hsipaw to Mandalay. Try to avoid something like my epic bus ride from Yangon to Bagan (3PM-4AM sleepless bus ride to Meiktila, followed by a 3 hour ride scrunched in the back of a pick-up truck, then a horse-cart ride, then another 2 hours on the back of another pick-up truck.)

2.) I went in the hot, dry season (late March-April) which plain sucked for photography. The way I coped with the terrible mid-day light is waking up every day at 5AM, shooting pics in the early morning, napping/doing errands from from 9:30AM to 3PM, and then shooting in the late afternoon.

3.) Travelling times suck. I spent 4 weeks there and I lost at least 7-8 days from being stuck on buses.

4.) My route wasn't terribly far off the beaten path: Yangon-Bagan-Mandalay-Hsipaw-I nle Lake-Yangon again for the water festival. The one place I would have liked to have seen was Mrauk U, but it's only accessible by flight, so it was the first destination off my list.
