Boats on the Neponset River Reservation early Saturday morning. The colored trees are the remains of a stand that were charred in a major fire in mid May. I am happy to report that new growth in the reed beds has almost entirely covered the burned ground.

Beautiful moody shot. The river always looks
intriguing from the highway but I never seem
to get back there with my camera. Were you on
a boat?

Thanks all! I was just on the riverbank, no
boats involved.

Thanks Ken. One of the benefits of getting up
early in the morning to shoot is that it is
sooo peaceful. There's usually not much wind,
so the reflections are good. The sun had not
quite risen when I took this. I realised
later that it was the longest day of the year
- not ideal for getting up before dawn! The
blue tones come from the in-camera processing
- I liked them so I kept them. I didn't do
anything in photoshop except a little
sharpening, which wasn't really necessary.

Such calm waters! This picture is so
relaxing!
Are fires a serious threat where you live.
Every summer here they are a nightmare!

Hi Oryctes! I suppose when I said 'major
fire' I meant major for round here. It's not
like southern California or anything. I was
going to say that noone was evacuated, but
people do live very close by, and I suppose
that it's quite possible that they had to
leave. It must have been very frightening for
them either way. Fires are not an annual
nightmare round here, no.

Love the reflections, but the whole scene
seems so peaceful, really like this one.
