The front of this store looks like a giant tombstone. It's pretty dead inside, too.

When I first saw the Vons sign go up, I though, OK, it's a small Vons logo, like the store signs in Santa Barbara, understated, cool!

And then . . . . the rest of the sign came up.

No, it just can't be a Vons, it's The Maaaaaaaaaaaarket by Vons.

A year or two ago Pavillions had these ridiculously snobby sounding radio ads. They'd tell you a long-winded story about Ancient Egypt and the art of fishing, and the "depths of the Pacific Oceahnn". It was to the point of ridiculousness! Prime mocking material, to be sure.

Strange that Vons owns Pavillions, now this venture?
