Adapted from an original photograph from Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp
(Wikipedia - I will find my source and quote this copyright free photograph) where upon a line of men stand together to have their photograph taken. I found their faces and expressions haunting.

The detail in the centre of this large black canvas is painted in tippex. It is part of a diptich where I am trying to highlight the fact that such horrific acts can be blanked out or forgotten.

When I was a little girl aged 10 years old I witnessed a TV documentary entitled 'The World at War' ... I have never forgotten those images and this one takes me back to seeing the reports of the liberation.

Well, we said we would never forget and these types of offences against humanity should never ever happen again...

In the 2nd part of my diptich my work is done by applying pencil and then erasing to reveal the image of a Darfurian mother and child.... I guess we never learn...? The eraser and the tippex are significant to me in these 2 pieces of work and also the size of the canvas which I hope conveys a lost feeling.
