This is a fantastic image, a lone tree set
against a dramatic sky. The sepia treatment
adds mood.

fantastic photo! i think the black and white
version is much more striking - although the
colour is still great.

@ I want 5:
I'm curious with this shot guys, some
people seem to prefer the unadulterated
version (original here). I usually try to minimise photoshoping
(limiting it to perhaps a few curve tweaks
and the like), but did a little more here w/
the sepia. What do you all think?

I think I actually like the sepia. What I
don't like is that at the top, the clouds
vanish and it's an empty space. Not an empty
space like sky, just empty. Perhaps cropping
some of that empty space away or enhancing it
to show more contrast between the sky and the
clouds. I can feel the lonliness of this
tree from seeing how the landscape goes on
without other trees off to the left. So, I
like that you offset the tree to communicate
this, rather than centering the tree. Maybe
take out that tiny bush in the corner that
"competes" with the tree.

I really like the sepia. The composition
is fantastic (except I would prefer a bit
tighter crop on the left side to clean up
that small tree/bush).
This really communicates wide open desolate
landscape.

Great composition.
I am still waiting for the first sepia
image that I like though. Surely this would
be better in B&W?

#5 (from the IWANT5! group) I think that the crop could be
tighter and teh sky could be minimized but i
do very much like the sepia effect.

Yay, I got 5!
Thanks all for your comments. I think
you're all probably right, I'll try a tighter
crop.

#6 (from the IWANT5! group)I think the light looks more
interesting in the sepia version. All in all
I prefer the color one but it is a close
call.

The sepia is certainly more dramatic than
the original, and I don't think it requires
further cropping... but I have to agree with
hotdogg3uk - this would probably be even
better in B&W.

ohhh cool, someone was around the corner
from my place....man small world..:)
i like the composition and the dramatic
cloud...sepia for me only works for
"old" styled shots, this would be
killer in B/W as said with some extra
contrast...

I love B & W sepia version. Amazing what
absense of colours can bring.
