Many people have hoped for the death of
plastic pink flamingos. They are campy. I
have one that lights up from the inside. It
actually looks nice.
I can't imagine where you got so many of
these plastic icons, but it makes a great
humorous photo.

You're kidding!!! This is YOUR picture? This
past week I have been emailed this very image
about 4 ot 5 times from various unrelated
sources! wow!!!
you started an internet meme. bud..
I would be proud.
Unless it happened to me way too many times
when I was trying to make a living from
photography then yeah I would be bothered.
Great work, AustinTX!!

I'm also sorry if I seem naive. Here I am
trying in a short period of time , to get my
name known on the Internet as a photographer.
Something I was proud of being 15 years ago
while in college, that kind of fell aside
when I moved onto other things in life.
I can see it both ways, it being something
to be happy about for certain people, and
something to be bothered about. Again, I'm
sorry.. especially if my naive' was annoying
which I imagine it could be.. lol

No, not annoying at all, it would be nice to
get credit for something I did, but I have
given up trying to track this down.

I can't even imagine how frustrating it would
be to track down a popular photo.
You should strike back and start selling
T-shirts and coffee mugs with this photo on
them, via cafepress or a similar site :-) if
you're going to have such hassles, at least
make some $$ off of them. I think you'd have
a guaranteed customer base since the photo
seems to have taken on a life of its own.
This photo will have instant appreciative
recognition among people in Winnipeg, for
instance. Transcona has been associated with
plastic pink flamingoes for many, many years
:-)
"A couple of miles east of my garden lies
Transcona, Canada's flamingo capital. For
some strange reason, the residents have
fallen in love with these emaciated-looking
birds with that shocking pink color.
Why? Who knows! Maybe those flamingos
exemplify to them the American ideal of
beauty, undernourished, skinny, tall. If it
makes the people of Transcona happy to look
at those weird birds, who am I to argue with
them? Let them have their flamingos. Let them
be happy."
(from Tacky Yard Art Is Good For The Soul)
More on Transcona's association with
flamingoes from CBC Manitoba...
P.S. Thank you for the plug for The Avian Flu Watch group. Anybody looking for other funny
pictures (among the serious ones) is welcome
to browse.

RIP: Pink Flamingo, 1957-2006

Florida-inspired icon that has been reviled
as kitschy bad taste and revered as retro
cool, is dead at age 49.
