FAO Schwartz toy store. I think FAO lost
their lease or they're going to leave the
space soon. Bryant Gumbel's morning show
used to be filmed there.
The building used to belong to Trump but he
lost it in bankruptcy to GM so it's back to
being called the GM Building

Apple Store - Glass Cube.
So, I did a little investigating. The
veneer will not be coming down today or this
weekend. Engineers are photographing it to
make some alterations. Apparently Apple is
not happy with the steel buckles holding the
glass together. They want to use another
attachment such as something that will blend
better with the glass.
The projected opening of the Glass Cube and
store is May 20th, 2006. The store is
underground and is 25,000 SQFT

NOyou are not wrong. There used to be a VERY
LARGE fountain in fornt. this was removed and
the new apple store cube is in it's place.
There will be two fountains on either side of
the glass cube.
The cube is not blocking the Central Park
view. How can it? It's glass? ;)

I just came here courtesy of Wired Gadget Lab
email. I don't understand what they're going
to fill the space with. One floor for
laptops, one for iMacs, one for cameras and
wireless networks, one for iTunes, iPods, and
speakers, and then one for G5s, eMacs, and
software? Sounds pretty empty to me.
Yah, maybe they'll add coffee-house type
areas on every floor. Sure, their products
are nice. But 24/7? What's the reasoning?

I think the idea is awsome! But I dont advise
u to name it Ka´bah or u´ll insult the
muslams. Dont get on their nerves, they get
irritated easily, c what happened with Zidane
& remember what happened because of the

Im a Muslim, I dont mind that its a Cube, or
that it is temorarily Black (will be glass
apparently), or that it is prolly the same
size as the actual Holy Ka'ba. What would
bother me though is if they did go ahead and
call it "Apple Mecca" now that
would be insluting for sure. Im hoping that
the PUN ends here.

It makes no difference what they have called
it. it seems to be a copy of our holy place
in mecca and they have decided to sell things
forbidden in our religion in this. how can
they do this knowing that the only other
cubed place in the world most people know of
IS the kaabah!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, so kaaba (see, I'm not capitalizing it
on purpose ;) is whole made out of glass and
iPods are banned in your country.
If you'd ever see huge plates of glass
transported and installed, they have foil on
them. Why ? So they don't scratch or break
that easy. C'mon, slow down, have a cool beer
and calm down...or something...whoops,

I LOVE Apple but this is so WRONG! They
SHOULD NOT call it or refer to it as Mecca
(the holiest place for Muslims), it's
offensive and so wrong to Muslims and Islam.
It's blasphemous and it should be changed.
Call it anything else, but I think people are
getting confused with the meaning of the word
"Mecca" and the fact that the cube
somehow resembles the holy Ka'aba. Then
people put down phrases like, "Bow
before the fountains for the faithful" -
it's WRONG! People don't take the piss out of
Jews publicly or call it the Vatican of
Apples, do they? Seriously, think more then a
nano-second before writing these things down
and thinking up stupid and offensive titles
