my basil finally came up about 2 months after
I planted it. I had given it up as a lost
cause. Those look good.

:) I've been pretty happy with the maiden
voyage on the good ship garden. Mitch--
farmer friends of ours told me that basil
looooves sun, and once I put it all in a
sunnier place (and then water it every day,
pretty heavy, without fail), it doubled in
size in a week. :)

For a second, I thought those were
mini-watermelons.
Congrats on the veggies that have managed to
survive. Looks like you could use a guard
mantis or 2.

It gets sun all day. I watered it every day
for a while until the rainy season hit and I
didn't have to any more. Now I'm back to
watering it again. I just thought it would
come up sooner. Weeding is not high on my
all-time favorites list either. But the
thought of home made pesto has me mouth
watering....

hooray for gardens.
we didn't plant this year, too bummed after
that rats ate all our tomatoes last year and
been a bit too busy.

Yeah, we've had chipmunk/rabbit problems
(rampant digging/mowing down), and it can so
get you down. Mostly I've had problems with
flowers (dug up) and herbs (rabbit salad)-- I
started protecting stuff with bird netting,
and that's worked pretty well. Maybe it would
work with rats, too? :)
Mitch-- did you sow in the ground, or pots?
I tried a bunch in the ground and had a near
zero success rate on the herbs, and
everything took forever to sprout if it did
at all. The veggies all sprouted, but the
herbs did nuthin'. But the seeds I potted
sprouted quickly and went wild....
Mary!! It's been faaaaar too long!
