Yes, the clouds and smoke merging together is
really well caught. Wonderfully symmetrical.

About sixteen years ago there was a hardcore
compilation in DeKalb called "From
DeKalb You Can See Byron" with the silos
drawn on the cover.

I am totally captivated by the way the clouds
and the outpour from the stacks meld...kinda
like the way my brain is trying to meld with
the floor......
*just kidding*

Love this image, the tones are excellent.
Though i think theres alittle to much
foreground. Maybe a good crop might do this
some justice, but u you shot this really
wide. 28mm? Anyway its still a great shot, i
wish you had a tighter shot of this.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment
wdp_420-- yes, I am not completely happy
with the crop either. As for the width, would
you believe 10mm, but with a 1.6 factor
making it the equivalent of 16mm? What you
see is actually a crop, but I haven't felt
confident about the crop. The shot would be
"cleaner" with a more focused theme
if I cropped out some of the foreground
grass; it distracts from the towers and
clouds. I realized that immediately.
On the other hand, I feel like this
distraction causing a split in focus is kind
of what the picture is about: the dynamic
between technology and nature. I think it
forces the viewer into a mindset like that of
our society that creates such roadside views.
Yet, even with the thematic parallels between
the crop and the content, I am not completely
happy. Maybe it is just overkill.
The shot was also one of my first attempts
at merging two shots with different exposure
settings for getting better tonality control.
They were merged in photoshop by hand using
layers and the erase tool.
I have many other shots of these towers,
but I like to only post one shot of any given
thing to Flickr to keep my stream fresh.
Thanks for the awesome comment!

16mm i was close. Gotta love the crop
factor, my 28mm that im used to seeing out of
technically is a 42/43mm. Anyway you seem to
have the exact same feeling about this image
as i do. Though, it does still work. Its a
great image! To me what makes this image is
the tower with the smoke/clouds and the
tonality of the middle of the image and
above. Just an idea here.. wonder what it
would look like with a good burn to the
forground, to put more emphisis on the tower.
But its your image, so all that matters is
that ur content with it. I like it either
may man. Well done.

Great angle and composition on this one!
B&W gives it added character. I didn't
realize this was posted to the Rock River
Valley group when I posted my version.
